Octopus Resort reef - Yasawas Fiji - Day 2

Exploring the reef straight off the beach at Octopus Resort, Waya Island.

Tighe very keen to get into the water and snorkel.  Visibility is fantastic.  As always, a Picasso Triggerfish joins us as soon as we go under water.  

Unexpected were the Shaded Bat fish. Larger than a Moorish Idol, these ones hung around the anchored bouy.

Plenty of Lined Surgeonfish. Always love the turquoise and yellow colours. Those tiny bright blue fish always make me smile.

The trumpetfish gave me a fright, I didn't expect to to glide underneath me, while I was watching the school of zebra fishes.

The coral is looking good. Plenty of colour and different shapes.

I think I am going to have to learn the names of the different corals. Amazing structures.

So many schools of fish. 

Blue Tang, otherwise known as Dory from Finding Nemo movie.

Not as many Butterfly fish, but maybe we will see more later in the day, depending on the tide.

  

Tighe really enjoying the experience, diving deep to see the different fish, and of course, to see how long he can hold his breath under water.

Finally, some more Butterfly fish.

I think these are yellow Tangs.

Plenty of Trumpet fish in this reef.

These blue fish are so bright against the grey rock.

Fiji - Octopus Resort - Day 1

We chose Octopus Resort as the reef is next to shore, so can walk straight into the water and discover the underwater world immediately.

We have a garden bure.  

Always great to see coconuts, and I dont know what this fruit is.

The shower is open to the sky.

After dinner, Tighe got to taste Kava. Made his tongue numb.!

Super tired after the plane journey, and ferry. Looking forward to exploring the reef tomorrow.

Exploring Underwater - Waya Island, Yasawas, Fiji

After a nice lunch, Tighe and I were keen to get into the water and explore.  Unfortunately the tide was coming in, and this reduced visibility. The incoming waves also pushed us into the reef. We had to be careful not to be scratched by the coral.  Water temperature was perfect, and we explored until our legs were tires.

Always makes me smile when I see these bright blue fish amongst the coral.

At a quick glance, I thought these were Moorish Idols, but they are Shaded Batfish.

Ferry to Yasawa, Fiji

 Tighe and I are exploring the Yasawa Islands in Fiji for the next six days. Erik was going to join us too, but his broken shoulder makes it too difficult for him to travel, and snorkel.

Taking the ferry to Octopus Resort, nestled in Liku Liku Bay on Waya Island, in the Yasawa Islands. 

It's about a 2 1/2 hours ferry ride.

An early morning bus ride from the airport hotel to Port Denarau. Watched the crew load the ferry up with everyone's gear.

Leaving mainland Fiji, Port Denarau at 8.45am . Nice day for a ferry ride.

First stop was the smallest island resort I had ever seen. South Sea resort.

Looking towards the Yasawas.  

We sailed between two islands. Both had great rock formations.

There are resorts on both islands. This one is Barefoot on Kuata Island.

Small boat for a transfer with thevWayalailai Eco resort. This island is also called Wayasewa.

At the end of the gap between the islands, is Warrior Rock, Kuata Island. There was a warrior singing and dancing at the top. Starting to feel like we are in Fiji.

Looking towards Waya Island, we will be staying here for the next five days.

I really like the rocky landscape. Really looking forward to exploring this island.

The ferry is quite small. It has another 3 hours to go until it reaches to northern islands of Yasawa.
