Snorkelling and fish, Waya Island, Yasawas, Fiji - Day 5

 

The thing about taking photos underwater, is that you are moving with with the water, and the fish are moving in another direction. Sometimes it is difficult to get the whole fish in the image, especially when the fish is a trumpet fish.

The blue tangs that dart about are stunning to see, such a vibrant colour.

Today, I just watched the fish, and looked at their markings, and how they have developed their own camouflage that enables them to flourish on the coral reef. 

The convict fish always looks angry.

Another reef, Waya, Yasawas, Fiji - Day 5

 
Explored the reef on the other side of the bay. Lots of different shaped coral and plenty of fish.

Lots of green varieties of coral, and different shapes and textures.

I wonder if the trumpet fish change colour in the surroundings like octopus do,

This weird shaped turquoise and yellow fish is well camouflaged, living amongst the antler coral.

Exploring Waya, Yasawas, Fiji - Day 5

Took the opportunity to explore a bit of Waya island before it got too hot.  Tighe is going scuba diving later, so we wandered around part of the island.

Plenty of sand, coconuts and boats in the bay.

Tighe way ahead of me, as I "walk too slow". Really enjoying exploring with Tighe.

Unlike other pacific islands we have visited in the past, this is not a coral atoll. The walk to the top of the hills takes one and half hours.

I am going to explore this reef, while Tighe is out scuba diving today.

Lovo night - Yasawas Fiji - Day 4

Lovo night at the resort.  Traditional Fijian singing and dancing. 

The men led with a challenge.

Fantastic voices, lots of singing.

At one stage, we all got up and danced around the swimming pool. Tighe and I had fun.

Lovo is the protein of the meal, and root vegetables cooked in the ground, similar to a hangi. 

The spinach soup Rourou was so good, I had 3 servings.

A few yachts have anchored in the bay.  Great as silhouette against the sunset.
