Mutant Marrow

Growing with the orange marrows is a green mutant.  Not sure if the skin will turn orange, or stay soft like a zuchinni.

The size is great, and if it tastes sweet like an orange marrow, I will save the seeds.
Well, the skin is softish, like a zuchinni, but it's not as sweet as a marrow.  Nice though.

Pins and Parrots

The two cockatiels have decided to help me finish the Rainbow Quilters 25th Anniversay Quilt.  I am busy sewing on 200 petals, and they found the yellow headed pins.
I gave up sewing for the rest of the day.  They would empty the pin container, then discover the pins on the quilt.
Just one at a time

I would pick up all the pins,  put the birds back at the pin container, and repeat.

The joys of being a crazy bird lady!

Seals, surf, skimboards, and smiles

Instead of going to the lake, the boys wanted to surf and skimboard at Newdick's beach, at Maketu.
Looking back to where we have been
The penninsular
The tide was working in our favour, so we explored around the pennisular, all the rocks, and rock pools.  Tighe found a seal sunning itself, and Quinn found some fabulous cliff sculptures.
Look Mama, a seal!
There was a seal. We climbed over the rocks and Tighe was so excited.  It was a real seal.  Tighe could remember seeing them down the South Island. This one was big.
Shags on rocks
The wind and erosion created these tall sculptures in the cliff face.
After a picnic lunch under the Pohutukawa tree, the urchins spent the rest of the day in the water
Looking towards Pukehina and Matata
Fun in the Sun
The skimboard is Quinn's favourite.
You just need balance.
See Mama, this is how it is done.
Oops!
Maketu is 40 minutes drive from home.  Newdicks beach has it all, rock pools for exploring, fantastic sandy beach for great swimming, surf, shellfish, and a large pohutukawa for shade. There is even an active volcano on the horizon,(White Island),  and the boys always look for it first.
Tighe's smile said it all.  What a great afternoon on the boogie board in the waves.

Happy 11th Birthday Anneke

Anneke wanted to celebrate her birthday with a prank party.  Her friends got on board, and pranked her for her birthday!  Fantastic gifts that will be talked about for a long time!
The chocolate game is a favourite of the guests, and once a six was rolled, the hat and gloves were fiercely fought over.
A radish, some garlic, and a brick are the most popular gifts for 11 year old girls this year.
"Garlic and a radish - what I always wanted!"
A brick - how wonderful!
The girls enjoyed the prank food; potato and gravy sundaes, meatball cupcakes, and dirt dessert.
Jordon, Mia, Rosa, Holly, Maia, Dana, and Carys all wondered how the skittles packet stayed up.
Make a wish Anneke!
The candle kept re-lighting once Anneke blew them out. I hope all your wishes come true!
I am having the piece with the skittles.
