Golden Gate Bridge

Whenever we drove into the city, we crossed the Golden Gate bridge.  Sun, wind, rain, fog, traffic jams, crashes, we experienced it all.
The best way to view the bridge is in a convertible, with the top down, wind in your hair.  Fortunately there was a Saab in the stable, and I made the most of it, enjoying the summer in California.
"The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco." - This quote has been attributed to Mark Twain, but not verified. We picked a Summer's day to walk the bridge.
Wrapped up warmly in our jackets, we walked from the North Tower parking area, off Conzelman Road, which is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
Our hands got numb quickly, but we could see the sun in Horse Shoe Bay and beyond in Sausalito.
Looking over the edge at the "Needles"
The diameter of the main cables are 92 cm.
There are 80,000 miles of wire in the Golden Gate bridge.
Watching the huge ravens on the side of the bridge.
The architecture of the bridge is Art Deco style.

Door into the tower.
Plenty of pelicans in the bay, and they fly in rows.
The bridge is 2,737m long. It's a long walk, plenty of cyclists and tourists.

In the carpark, these birds were eating the insects caught in the numberplates of the vehicles.
The fog came down, and the bridge disappeared. The buses filed with loads of tourists still took photos of the "bridge" and the Bay.
To get back to our car, we walked under the bridge. The area has netting around, to prevent suicide jumpers.
