Happy Halloween 2015

Halloween was on a Saturday, which meant the urchins could stay up late, and go trick and treating later in the evening.

Quinn helped sort the M&Ms for making the creepy crawlies.  Why are there always more orange ones than yellow ones, and who has OCD?
Oscar's favourites were the eyeballs, so we had to make a few of those.
We had made "worms" a few years ago.  This time we allowed 2 hours in the afternoon, to squeeze them out of their molds.  Delicious!

Tighe likes the bones, so these were on the menu as well.
My favourite are the ghosts, yummy, yummy, yummy!

Even the spiders got into the spirit of Halloween.
Vampire wee, and frozen hand were the refreshments.
The head in the jar scared all the urchins who needed tomato sauce with their severed fingers.

The menu for the evening was simple.  Creepy crawlies, severed fingers and sausage rolls.  The main was elbows in blood (pasta and sauce).  Dessert was everyone's favourite:
Potty Poo, Worms, Bones, Ghosts, Eyeballs, and Dirt dessert.
Po, Tane, Andrew, Patrick, Kahu, Oscar, Quinn, Anneke, Nicole, Cameron, Christian, Kauri, and Adam were all ready to go trick and treating.

Quinn ordered cinnamon flavoured candies from the USA.  The chilli cinnamon jellybabies caused a little confusion, as his guests expected them to taste like raspberry!

Deadpool and Tighe

Tighe has been reading the Marvel comics for a while.  He is a fan of the Avengers, and is fascinated with the Infinity stones.  Deadpool is his latest craze.
Halloween was coming up, and he wanted to make a Deadpool costume for the party.  I said he had to make it himself, but I would guide him, and help with the pattern.
We found a long sleeve red shirt, and red trackpants at the second hand clothes shop.
I bought some black fabric from AJ's, and a little ribbed fabric for the mask.  Tighe had to do the rest.
We trimmed down the legs, turned the shirt inside out, and sewed on some black panels.

The mask was the most difficult.  Getting the eye placement in the correct position on a little man's head.
The sword carrier we built out of cardboard and really thin foam.  Tighe spraypainted it black, and we used cable ties to fasten it to the straps.  The straps he built out of an old thing Erik had found.
Tighe found a black belt, and shoes at the secondhand shop, and bought several black bags/pouches from the Chinese junk shop for a couple of dollars. The belt buckle is the logo downloaded, and then glued onto thin foam.  Tighe used a "bobbypin" to attach it to the belt.
Well done Tighe, very impressive effort for Halloween.

There's a crocodile in the way...

Anneke had her Maths test today.  She was very creative in her answers.  Full marks for creativity.

Arboria, Luminarium

Sensory overload in a pneumatic structure.
Arboria is a luminarium: an inflatable sculpture of light and colour.  It's built like a bouncy castle, but you are inside, and the light comes through.  Very cool, and different.
Green tunnels, blue tunnels, yellow tunnels, pink tunnels, and the red dome was intense.

The main dome is extremely colourful.  We lay on our backs, and just watched the intense colours.

Quinn liked the blue dome.  I found it interesting how our clothes changed colour.

Erik's red shirt turned brown in the green dome.
The Architects of Air (England) create these luminariums.  They are tunnels and mazes.  An escape from real life, and just absorb the colours.  Magical.

I didn't like the red dome.  The colour was too intense.  We could see the blue veins in our arms.  All the colour was sucked out of us.

After about an hour, we ventured back into the real world.  The weather was perfect for a picnic at the beach.  Spent the rest of the day at Papamoa.  Found some huge jellyfish washed up on the shore.
