8 straws and a glass

I am sure you are wondering why a visit to the Auckland Zoo, would have a title of 8 straws and a glass.
Exotic plant at the Zoo
Erik needed to get to Auckland for his grand adventure, the Tour Aotearoa, so we combined the overnight trip with a family visit to the zoo.
I really enjoyed seeing the Flamingoes again.
The urchins excitedly discussed in the car all the animals they wanted to see, and we got to see them all, including the Tarantulas. (Urchins thought they would be bigger!)

It was a hot day, so all the big cats were doing what cats do best.
Fortunately, one of the hippos decided to get out of the pool.

 The Meercats are always popular.
 We smiled at the crocodile.
 Even King Julian was there.
 These monkeys were Anneke's favourite.

I liked the Galapagos Tortoises cooling off in the mud.  Reminds me of some urchins I know.

Australian Lizard
The Aussie Outback section had Emus, Tasmanian Devils, and those things with the long tails.
Later we found another big cat sleeping in the shade.
Just as we were leaving, the Red Panda showed herself.
Later at the hotel, Oscar needed something to cool to drink, so he ordered a Spider.
