Glenorchy, and movie locations

Looking towards Glenorchy, and it's raining. This afternoon we are exploring the valleys.

About 15 minutes drive from Glenorchy along Paradise Road are the filming locations for films, Lord of the Rings, and The Hobbit, and Wolverine, and Mission Impossible.

The majority of the filming locations are on the Glenorchy Paradise Road.

Paradise Hillside from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Beorns place, as well as the Hudson Farm in Wolverine. The Fiordland Forest was filmed as Fanghorn Forest in the Two Towers.

It’s also not far from the start of the Routeburn Track, next to the Dart River. An excellent opportunity to experience the ancient beech forest of Fiordland. This forest also featured in the LOTR movies.
Lothlórien.

The experience of the day was that with the rain, mist, and atmosphere, we could imagine
Orcs, dwarfs, elves and hobbits walking out of the forest.

The Fellowship walks through the outskirts of Lothlórien when they ambushed by the elves. Exact location within the forest is unknown.
Amon Hen

The Uruk-Hai attack the Fellowship on the slopes above Nen Hithoel where Pippin and Merry are captured and Boromir is killed. Exact filming location within the woods is unknown.

Late afternoon we started to make our way back to Queenstown.

Stunning landscapes, mountains, hills, lakes.

Pigeon and Pig Islands, Lake Wakatipu.

Queenstown was about an hours drive back from Glenorchy
