Even though we live in Rotorua, it is nice to visit other hot springs around the country. We ventured to Kawhia for a spot of fossil hunting, fish and chips for lunch, sliding down sandhills for the afternoon, then digging a hot spot until sunset.
Bridget, Peter, Carenza, and Leon joined us. Anneke excitedly found a fossilized shark tooth.
I love how Ocean Beach is so deserted. Less than 20 people on the whole black sand beach.

The sulphur smell led us to the hot water, even before low tide, we just had to be patient and wait for the tide to go out further. The water was so hot it burned our feet, so we had to dig around the super hot spots.

Sunset was a 5.15 pm, and didn't disappoint. Thanks Leon for the photos.
