We didn't stop in Queenstown, but at Bob Cove, it’s about 17 minutes away from Queenstown on the road to Glenorchy. The parking lot for Bob's Coveis a sharp turn off the main road after passing Wilson Bay and the Twelve Mile Delta . This is where Frodo, Sam and Gollum watch the battle between Faramir's Rangers of Gondor and the men (and Oliphaunts) of Harad. Sam and Gollum discuss coney cookery.

There are some nice bays, and in the warmer weather, I am sure it's popular for swimming and picnics.

That's the small hill we climbed up for the lookout. It's a loop track that goes past some old lifeworks. The walk took about an hour return.
Next stop is Glenorchy, at the start of Lake Wakatipu.
