The short walk, about 1 km, is a wide easy path, but open to the elements, ie wind!
You can only access the lighthouse by tunnel, which is only open Saturday and Sunday 12.30 - 3.30pm.
The urchins wanted to see what was over the edge, which was scary for me.
The view from the edge, a rugged cove and a bird rock.
Bird guano |
There were seals looking like sand bags.
This was a popular walk, and there were over 100 people waiting for the tunnel to be opened by the National park rangers.
This orange moss/ algae was intriging and covered the cliffs in the area.
The tunnel was crudely made, and Erik would not be able to stand up it.
There is a swing bridge connecting the lighthouse with the mainland.
There is a limit of 49 people on the otherside at any time. We had to wait our turn.
Lots of pelicans about, as well as sea gulls.
The white island in the distance is Bird Island, and the colour is their guano.
The light is the original light from 1855 from France.
Orignally the lighthouse was further up the hill. but the ships couldn't see the light in the fog!
My 100 day project is influencing how I view my surroundings.
The lighthouse is automated 24 /7 so there is no need for a light house keeper, or their families.
Lizards and voles captured the urchins attention while they wandered back to the carpark.
