Te Wairoa - Wairere Waterfall

In June 1886, the small village of Te Wairoa was buried in mud as a result of the violent eruption of Mt Tarawera. Over the years the village has been uncovered, and the Muesum is a great way to see how Maori and early settlers lived.  The Museum has a very good exhibition of the Pink and White Terraces.
There is a leisurely walk past the trout stream, and relics of the Maori way of life.  Tighe liked the canon.
The track to the waterfall is easy, about 15 minutes as a round trip.  There are a number of smaller cascades.  The noise from the waterfall is extremely loud.
Lots of moss and ferns.

The track is quite steep, and can be slippery in places.  The walk through the bush is cool and refreshing, after walking around the buried village in the sun.
The track meanders across the stream, past some more cascades, and then a climb up the otherside to the carpark.
