The plan was to leave Rijeka early in the morning, and spend the day exploring the Istrian Peninsula, then drive back via Motovun, over the border into Slovenia, and be back in Ljubljana by 9pm.
The border we chose on the 626 wasn't an "international border" only a EU one, so we had to detour for another hour, to Buzet, and go through the border on the 208.
