Vintgar Gorge - Slovenia
Vintgar Gorge, carved by Radovna River, is located near Gorje, approximately 4 kms north-west from Bled.
The 1.6-kilometre long gorge is carved through the autumn hued walls of Hom and Boršt hills.
Vintgar Gorge was discovered in 1891 by photographer Benedikt Lergetporer and Gorje mayor and cartographer Jakob Žumer. It was impassable and inaccessible in its natural form, but due to the tourist development of Bled, more than 500 metres of bridges and broad walks were built in 1893.
Near the end by the Sum Waterfall, there is a dam /weir and the stone arch railway bridge built in 1905, across the 53m gorge, and 33m above the trail.

Sometimes Erik had to duck to fit under the cutouts of the cliff face.
Famished after all the hiking, climbing, walking and exploring, we stopped at a Gostilna (a casual pub type restaurant) for our evening meal. I got some sweet potatoes, which came out as fries, and a crunchy salad, which was mainly capsicum with zucchini, fennel, and another vegetable I couldn't identify.
Erik got beef cheek, with the amazing onion mashed potatoes. This was delicious.
