City Walls - Piran - Slovenia

Since about the 14th Century, the seaside town of Piran has been surrounded by a wall.

We took the opportunity to climb up the wall and explore along the battlements.

Great views of the surrounding area, and St George's Church dominates the edge of Piran.
The steeps are were extremely steep, and there wasn't much room squeezing up to the next level.

The red tiled roofs were enchanting, and some even had bird houses on top.
Looking inland from the top of one of the towers.
We were even higher than St Michael.

Lots of olive trees and fig trees in the area.
I guess they were shorter in the 14th and 15th century when this part of the wall was built, as there was a threat of Turkish invasions.
Pigeons were nestled in those holes.
