Monkodonjo - Istrian Peninsula - Croatia

I cannot describe how it feels to stand on a site of a civilisation of the Bronze Age, 3,000 years old.

Before lunch we visited the archaeological site of Monkodonjo. It is situated 5 km east of Rovinj. The settlement was encircled by 1 km long stone walls. It consisted of the three parts: the central barrow, the crafts district and the living quarters. Over one thousand people lived here.

The information boards (in Croatian, English, German and Italian) help to make sense of the ruins and to imagine what life was like here over 2-3000 years ago.

There are also good views of the surrounding area. This is a wonderful place -The entry is Free.
We were the only people visiting and is was so quiet and full of atmosphere. T
The Lower Town

There are information boards on the way round in many languages to describe what each section of the settlement was for. We spent maybe half an hour wandering about, absorbing the atmosphere.

The Upper Town
The exploring, walking and fresh air made me hungry. The smell of olives filled the air. We found a local Gostinitsa. We got salad.
